First Day On The Outside

Going to a crowded restaurant was a little too much right out the gate. One would think that it should be just like riding a bike to get back into the swing of things however it does take some time. Inside the prison walls, there are no cell phones ringing, you don’t get in a car and drive and to get your mail it is either delivered to your area or your name is called. The hustle and bustle of everyday life are gone and until I got back into it did I realize just how much stimulus our lives have without even paying much attention to it. My mentors were great as they were there just to help me ease back into the swing of things and just like a kid with the training wheels off just to see your parent holding the bike up helps you get along until you are doing it on your own. Going to Savers to look for an outfit to wear to church was also another dose of anxiety. I had not had a large selection of clothes to choose from for a long time nor had I even an idea of what size I was looking for since my diet had changed. Having Tom and Cindy there with me was nice and I knew that they were ok when I said I didn’t want to look anymore I would just go to church in the outfit I came out of prison in… AND that was just fine… Looking back now I can still feel my heart speed up and my breath catch a little as the experience was a lot overwhelming and the help was so much appreciated.
