Help with a “Second Chance”

I was fortunate enough to go through the second chance program which is an employment readiness program started by Governor Ducey. This program helped me learn interview skills and how to deal with my background, as well as how to put a resume together. In this program, the few places that offer assistance to people re-enter into society were introduced to me. I was all on my own with nothing to come out to and was concerned that the need for money would lead me back to my old ways. When I reached out to the services that were made available to me they were unable to help with bus passes which were a vital need in getting around for job interviews. I was very blessed that some friends had gotten me a 2-week bus pass which allowed for me to get a job and then to Dress for Success who helped me with clothes for my job and a bus pass to get to it. My church and Deseret Industries helped me with clothes, and 6 months later that first set of clothes that I got from the church are still the same clothes that I wear every day. I have been able to get a few things here and there but I gotta say the resources out there are very depleted and not available as promised. I feel very blessed that I had my mentors and the help I have received and I know that it was a big part in helping me stay on the right path.
